Ashleigh Barty continued her tremendous run of form in Melbourne with an impressive win over Lesia Tsurenko 6-0 6-1.
There was very little mercy involved from the side of Barty who came out with a purpose on Monday. The purpose was to win the match for Barty but even she probably did not expect it to be so quick and so efficient. Doing her best Iga Swiatek impression, the Australian was in the zone from start to finish never allowing her opponent anything.
Combining some good serving, aggressive play and switching up of the rhythm, Barty found a great combination to completely frustrate Tsurenko. The Ukrainian was unable to do anything but lose points in bulk and that finished off the first set rather quickly in 25 minutes. The score was a bagel 6-0 for Barty who was looking dominant.
Not much changed in the 2nd set as Barty continued dominating in everything. The Australian player got her first match point at 5-0 after 25 minutes of play so she could have rounded out the score nicely. Showing some pride, Tsurenko saved it and one more after that to make it 5-1. While not much more respectable of a scoreline, Tsurenko avoided a double bagel at least.
