Barty headlines the ladies Australian Open day 5

American teenage sensation Gauff is looking to continue her run of upsets at the Australian Open. In the previous round, she defeated the defending champion Osaka. Now she faces another tough opponent in Sofia Kenin. The American has been on a tear recently. She already defeated one American in this tournament on day 3 when she blew away Ann Li. It will be an interesting matchup between two young Americans who will represent the Star-Spangled Banner for many years to come.

Petra Kvitova will also be on the court looking to continue her bid for the Australian Open trophy. She has had a pretty decent run so far advancing to this stage without any issues. In the previous round, she defeated Alexandrova. Her opponent will be Sakkari of Greece who is slowly but surely proving to be one of the better tennis players's on the tour. It's hard to see whether she can do much against Kvitova but she won't be without her chances.

The 3rd match of the day should have featured Serena Williams but she lost her match to Wang. Qiang will have a good opportunity to progress even further especially if she repeats her level from the previous round. Her opponent Jabeur has had a good tournament so far which saw her effectively retire Wozniacki from the tour. She will be looking to do the same against Wang but we are pretty sure Wang will not retire from tennis after the match.

The programme will be closed by Australias and world number one Barty. She will play against Riske who is a very tough opponent for her. So far they have played twice and both times Riske came out on top with the last match being played last year at Wimbledon. So not only can Riske beat Barty, but she already defeated her on a grand slam. Barty will need to be careful in this match but playing in front of the home crowd will certainly give her an edge.
