No.1 seed Ashleigh Barty came from the brink to reach a third semi-final of the 2021 WTA season during the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
Barty won the last four games to see off no.6 seed Karolina Pliskova 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 who was two points away from victory on five occasions but the Aussie ace came from a break down in the final set to book her place.
But while she was on the verge, a superb recovery was completed as she improved her record against Pliskova to 5-2 and also against Top 10 player which now sits to an eight winning streak.
This record date back to the WTA Finals in Shenzhen where she lost to Kiki Bertens albeit in the round robin as she went onto win from there.
The turning point in the tie came when Pliskova served for the match, she fended off four break points as she was prevented from reaching match point but on facing number five, she found the net which proved the start of Barty's revival to victory.
Having levelled the score, Barty took the impetus from there winning 10 out of the last 12 points to make Pliskova rue her missed opportunities.
A tie against Elina Svitolina or Petra Kvitova awaits as her first clay action since 2019 Roland Garros has proven fruitful so far.
