No.7 seed Kiki Bertens put in an incredible performance to beat Karolina Muchova and progress to the last 16 of the Qatar Total Open

Bertens beat Muchova 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets to reach the last 16 of the Qatar Total Open. The 28-year-old was back in action in Doha after defending her title in St Petersburg.
The Dutch dominated right from the first set and led 4-0. And she sealed her first set win in 32 minutes. Muchova put in a better fight in the second set. But Berten's was extremely clinical and won again to progress to the last 16.
Bertens found her delivery threatened more times than she'd like. But she showcased world class expertise to get out of trouble on each occasion.
Bertens was really happy with her performance. And she said she had to be aggressive to be able to defeat Muchova.
“I was really happy with the level I played today. My serving was great – I saved all the break points I faced – and I missed only one break point that I won, so on the important points I was there,” she said.
“I hadn’t played her before but I’d seen her play and I knew she’d be really aggressive, coming to the net so I knew I had to play aggressive myself. If she was able to play aggressive, she’d have been able to get to the net and put me under pressure.”
Bertens will play Zheng Saisai in the last 16 of the Qatar Open.
