Bianca Andreescu needed three sets to beat Harmony Tan but she was able to do it and move on to the second round 6-0 3-6 6-1.
Andreescu has built a reputation for making things harder than it needs to be and it's not something usual for her. What was a bit unusual was the superb display she put on in the opening set. Catching Tan off guard Andreescu wiped the court with her opponent 6-0. Tan served poorly and struggled to keep the ball in play committing 10 errors in only six games.
The 2nd set was much better by the French player as she was to serve a bit better and it made a difference. Andreescu loosened up quite a bit and worked against her as she was the one who was spraying errors this time; 15 in nine games played.
The final set featured a refocused Andreescu who once again dominated rallies and rushed to a quick 6-1 finish. A good start for Andreescu but also one that demonstrated the issues that have persisted for months. Even when she plays good, she simply can't keep up the consistency.
