The 8th seed Bianca Andreescu is through to the Miami Open quarter-final following a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Garbine Muguruza in two hours and 11 minutes.
The young Canadian won five points more in the clash of Major champions, losing serve twice and controlling the pace after the opener to bring the victory home with four breaks on her tally.
Bianca had 34 winners and 34 unforced errors, and Muguruza couldn't follow that pace, hitting 24 winners and 38 mistakes to finish her Miami journey in the fourth round. Both players served well in the opening seven games, offering no break chances and looking good to reach a tie break.
That all changed in the eighth game when Muguruza converted a break opportunity to open a 5-3 gap, holding at love in the next one for 6-3 in 48 minutes. Andreescu saved two break chances in the second set's third game and gained momentum, firing a forehand return winner a few minutes later to move 3-1 in front.
The Spaniard broke back in game seven, but it wasn't to be for her, as the Canadian grabbed another return game for a 5-3 lead and held with a service winner for 6-3, becoming the favorite ahead of the decider. Bianca raced into a 4-0 advantage with a boost on her side and moved over the top with a service winner at 5-2.
