The first day continues to head towards its conclusion with Bianca Andreescu and Paula Badosa making a winning return to Wimbledon back-to-back to reach the second round.
Andreescu who only returned to the sport a month ago after an absence since last August reached the final of the Libema Open s'Hertogenbosch and has continued her good grass form into the main event.
The 24-year-old Canadian saw off Jaqueline Cristian in a superb first round win 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour on Monday evening. A previous best of a third round at SW19, she will hope that her 2019 magic returns over the next fortnight. It could very much pan out that way with her draw being very accommodating to do so.
Aryna Sabalenka withdrawing earlier today has handed her a real shot with Erika Andreeva who saw off Emina Bektas now sitting in Sabalenka's spot in the draw. This means that Jasmine Paolini, Marta Kostyuk and Madison Keys are the main seeds in her section. Albeit all are quality on grass, it will not be Sabalenka in the latter stages like it could've been. With Victoria Azarenka also withdrawing, first time semi-finalists will already be set on day one.
But Karolina Muchova has not made a winning return to Grand Slam tennis albeit she was facing a player who was in her position of being on the comeback trail in Paula Badosa.
Paula Badosa continues comeback form denting Karolina Muchova's return in the process.
Badosa has only just found her footing again recently and has been winning games and gaining confidence. While Muchova only returned last week from a near year lay-off and had some wrist issues again in Eastbourne which saw her withdraw from her match against Madison Keys.
She said that she would have no issue making Wimbledon. But it seems to be that she will now head towards the Olympic Games or the US Hard Court swing with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat against Badosa in just over an hour and 20. Next up for the Spaniard is the winner of the final match ongoing of the day between Mirra Andreeva and Brenda Fruhvirtova which is into a deciding set. Daria Kasatkina lurks as the seed with the Russian facing Lily Miyazaki next.
