Italy’s tennis star Camila Giorgi is in danger of facing prosecution after reports of producing a false green pass for vaccination.
There has been an investigation taking place in Italy where a doctor has been arrested for issuing a false green pass for vaccination against Covid-19.
Giorgi was also reportedly found guilty of presenting a false green pass for vaccination against Covid-19 earlier this year.
The report stated that the government has decided to prosecute all those who are involved in the false Covid-19 vaccination drive, which could feature the likes of Giorgi.
During the Australian Open earlier this year, Camila made a long statement regarding the issue after being named in the investigation.
"In Italy they made reports about my vaccination status but they did it before knowing the situation,” she said.
“The doctor was investigated and had problems with the law. For my part, I had all possible vaccinations in different places, it's the doctor's problem, not mine. So I'm very calm about this situation. If it hadn't been like this I wouldn't have been able to come here to Australia to play, at least I think.
I am in no danger at all and have no trouble to defend. I did everything the Australian Government asked. I didn't know about the doctor's past, she has over 300 people with whom she has collaborated, but I had one vaccination with her and then I had others with other doctors. I repeat, it's her problem."
The development will not going to be good news for Giorgi who despite turning pro 17 years back, she has never managed to play in the semifinal of any Grand Slam.
Her best outing in any of the major tournaments was back in 2018 when she qualified for the quarterfinal of Wimbledon where she eventually ended up losing to former world number one America’s Serena Williams with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
