Following their third round battle at the 2025 Miami Open, Clara Tauson appears to be upset with opponent Paula Badosa, who left Court 1 with the victory.
Despite dealing with a lingering back injury, Badosa was able to summon her reserves and defeat the Danish star. The former World No.2 recorded a 6-3 7-6(3) victory, but it was her antics during the match that rubbed Tauson the wrong way.
Badosa had been dealing with a back injury prior to the start of the Miami Open, and the ailment appeared to bother the 10th seed during her bout against Tauson. The Spaniard received treatment during two medical timeouts in the second set, which left her Danish opponent visibly frustrated.
There was clearly tension between both players as the second set progressed, with Tauson believing Badosa had mocked her by clapping after Tauson made a drop shot that Badosa failed to reach.
"The referee just thought she said "well played" to me, but I'm almost 100 percent sure she didn't say that," said Tauson in her post-match interview. "I don't know why I should not be allowed to make a drop shot just because she was injured. I don't quite know what it has got to do with me, but she obviously thought it was wrong. I can't do anything about that.
"I don't think she's (Badosa) my biggest fan. I don't really know why, because I haven't done anything to her."
Tauson was also very unhappy with the fact that Badosa was allowed a medical timeout during a game when she was down 15-40 which according to the rules is otherwise not allowed. Nonetheless, the Spaniard regained her movement during the second set, and eventually prevailed in a very intense encounter. However, Badosa would be forced to retire from the tournament the following day citing her back injury, allowing rising Filipino star Alexandra Eala a berth into the quarterfinals.
