Coco Gauff has withdrawn from Zhengzhou. After winning a Grand Slam & stringing together a 16 match win streak, she probably wants some rest. Next stop… WTA Finals. ❤️
The Zhengzhou Open which begins on October 9 had one of the most stacked draws of the year in the WTA, but now has lost two of its main names with Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina.
Gauff was top seed and like Rybakina had received a bye through to the second round, but still had decided not to make the trip to Zhengzhou.

Likely due to the impending WTA Finals and preventing themselves getting injured and after a gruelling China Open where both made the latter stages.
Gauff lost out to Iga Swiatek, while Rybakina lost in the semi-finals to Liudmila Samsonova. The latter would’ve been facing Samsonova again. Now Ons Jabeur will be the top player alongside Maria Sakkari.

- My money is simply on fatigue. She's not the compact 'muscle-man'-type like perhaps Sabalenka, Swiatek or Sakkari. She's a player desperately longing for some kind of Djokovic rhythm. She should skip lots to win more majors. And the rumour I thought wasn't it Long Covid?MrAndreeva10-05-2024
