American tennis star
Coco Gauff has expressed desire to see
male vs female duels in tennis just like the NBA.
The NBA All-Star weekend came to an on Sunday where Golden
State Warriors star Stephen Curry and New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu competed
in the first-ever NBA vs WNBA three-point contest. On the night, it was Curry
who came out on top.
Gauff was recently quoted in a report where she expressed a desire
to see similar events in tennis as well where women tennis players can go up
against the men’s players.
"There's also like the dropshot one," she said. "Ons
(Jabeur) and Carlos (Alcaraz) would be a cool matchup against that. There could
be maybe a consistency challenge. "I just hope they continue to do this. It
just humbles a lot of men in the world. I really like that. Especially
basketball, that type of competition, it's something physicality doesn't always
matter. I think that's what makes it cool."
Gauff further went on to heap praise on Ionescu’s efforts on
the night but admitted that Curry is perhaps the best shooter of all time.
"I think the
Sabrina and Steph competition was great," said Gauff. "I think most
people were rooting for Sabrina. What she did was incredible, especially also
shooting from the NBA line. Steph is definitely the greatest three-point
shooter ever."
