Coco Gauff has the chance to win both singles and doubles titles at the
Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma today which is a very rare feat.
In an era of tennis where tennis players exclusively play either singles or doubles, winning titles in both singles and doubles at one event is a rare feat. Coco Gauff has a chance to do it at the Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma. The American has played a great week of tennis in both competitions reaching the finals.
In the Singles, she will play against Qiang Wang at 14:30 which is her first career final on clay. It is her 2nd career final overall after Linz in 2019 which she won as a lucky loser. Playing great tennis all week long the young teenager was able to bulldoze her way to the final against some good competition.
A similar thing happened in the doubles where she and her partner McNally were able to defeat all opponents they faced this week to reach the finals. In the finals, they will take on Jurak and Klepac with Gauff having the opportunity to complete the rare feat.
It happened not so long ago when Ashleigh Barty was able to win the trophy in Stuttgart in both singles and doubles. In singles, she defeated Aryna Sabalenka while in the doubles she and Jennifer Brady defeated Krawczyk and Mattek Sands. It is something that does not happen often with not many top singles players participating in the doubles.
Aryna Sabalenka is the only top 10 singles player on the WTA tour to hold a ranking inside the top 10 of doubles as well.
