The 2021 ATP
Geneva Open is coming to an end with the final left to be played and it will be
Denis Shapovalov or
Casper Ruud as the winner.
It was a very entertaining week of tennis in Geneva that featured numerous postponements due to rainy weather. It was because of the lack of cooperation of the weather that Denis Shapovalov had to play two matches one day. He won both of them which is why he is in the final of this event.
It has been a fruitful clay season for Shapovalov so far who changed his game a little bit and it yielded results. The Canadian almost beat Nadal in Rome but his tennis looked even better in Geneva. En route to the final, he defeated Cecchinato, Cuevas and Djere, even playing two matches in one day.
His opponent will be Casper Ruud, a player about whom all is known. A clay court specialists who honed his skills in the Rafael Nadal Tennis Acadamy. His clay game has been one of the best in the world dating back to last year. He currently holds a 19-6 record on the year with his clay record being 14-4.
His road to the final included easier player's than Shapovalov's as he defeated Sandgren, Koepfer and Andujar. He posses a strong serve and big forehand which he utilizes well on clay.
Both of these players have similar games that are based around their precise first serve and big forehand. Ruud is the better clay-court player but Shapovalov moves well enough to be able to counter Ruud. As a lefty, he will have some advantage in rallies but Ruud rarely gives matches away.
It will be a very competitive match with Ruud having a slight edge due to his familiarity with the surface. His form has been great lately but so was Shapovalov's. They never played before and this will their first match. The match starts at 16:00 CET and you can follow it on our
