After taking down Wang in the previous round,
Coco Gauff took down Zhang 7-6(1) 7-5 to secure a spot in the
Miami Open 4th round.
The match started off with both players winning a couple of their early service games. Gauff was the first player that faced a break point but she saved it. In the very next game, she broke her opponent to take a 3-2 lead but gave it right back. It was the shakiest Gauff looked all week in Miami and she soon found herself down 3-5.
Zhang had a perfect chance to secure the first set by serving for it at 5-3 but she failed to convert either of the two set points she had. Gauff broke back and levelled the score at 5-5. The first set eventually was decided in a tiebreak where the young American had all the momentum on her own side. She raced towards the finish line with a 7-1 demolition.
The 2nd set was another entertaining and interesting one. It wasn't perfect by either player as Zhang was up a break twice. The first time it was early at 1-0 and the 2nd time at 4-2. She did not hold onto the lead either time as Gauff eventually battled back. She took the lead and had her first match point at 6-5 which she ended up converting.
A strong win for Gauff who had issues in this one but sheer determination and grit allowed her to overcome those struggles and win an important match for her.
