Coco Gauff was down a break in the first set against her Spanish opponent to win the match in two sets 6-4 6-1 getting her
Madrid Open campaign underway in a good way.
Gauff was a bit shaky to start this match as it took her a while to find a good rhyme. Her opponent played really well and put Gauff in a lot of tricky situations. It took the American a while to figure things out but once she did she was able to quickly turn things around in her favour. A 2-4 deficit in the first set became a 6-4 opening set win.
She kept the high level in the second set completely overwhelming her opponent and taking the second set 6-1. It was a good match overall for Gauff as she once again showed her comfort level on clay as well as facing some adversity which should keep her alert enough for the upcoming matches.
She served well which will be the crucial point at this event and today was a good start. Up next could be Paula Badosa if the Spaniard wins her match later today.
