America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff has parted ways with
coach Pere Riba despite achieving some incredible results recently.
The 19-year-old is often rated as one of the brightest young
talents in the women’s singles category currently playing in the circuit.
Gauff hired Riba ahead of the fourth and final Grand Slam of
the year but as per the latest report, the two are not working together
anymore.
The news is a rather surprising one, considering that the
Atlanta-born managed to win her maiden Grand Slam in New York when she defeated
the current world number one Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a score
of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Gauff is currently taking part in the
WTA Finals event in Cancun,
Mexico, where in her first outing, she thrashed the three-time Grand Slam finalist
Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
She will next face the current world number two Poland’s Iga
Swiatek on Tuesday. This will be the 10th time when both players
will face off at the highest level.
In the previous nine meetings, Swiatek had a clear advantage
as she won on eight occasions and suffered just one defeat.
Their previous
meeting was in the semifinal of the China Open where the four-time Grand Slam
winner came out on top with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
