Coco Gauff takes down Qiang Wang in Miami

Coco Gauff avenged her Australian Open loss to Wang with a sturdy 2-set win over the Chinese player in Miami 7-5 6-4.

After some lacklustre tennis so far this week, Coco Gauff finally found some form this week in Miami. She is playing very good tennis in the somewhat slower conditions of Miami which allows her to cover the court really well with her speed. Her defence is very hard to break down in Miami and Wang found that out the hard way.

She destroyed Gauff in Melbourne with her stellar attacking play but things were quite different today. Gauff also did a lot of damage when she was returning as she was able to attack quite early in rallies. That is essentially what won her the match because she was somewhat vulnerable on her own serve.

The first set was quite impressive from Gauff as she jumped out to an early lead that grew to a 5-1 lead later on. She complicated things considerably by losing several games in a row giving Wang the 5-5 scoreline. However, she was able to rally rather well to finish off the set 7-5.

Things were quite different in the 2nd set as both players had chances to get a break but neither was able to get one early. Gauff eventually pulled ahead with a 5-3 lead but when serving for the match she lost her serve to make it 5-4. Wang once again failed to win her own serve as Gauff finished it off with 6-4.
