It is the third day of action at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey with Quarter-Finals at stake for the winners of the ties later today as the Schedule of Play has been confirmed.

Starting off the Schedule of Play is Kateryna Bondarenko against Rebecca Peterson, the sixth seed. Bondarenko came from a set down against Sara Sorribes Tormo while Peterson came from a set and a break down herself defeating Kateryna Kozlova but while this is the case the Swede could use that as her only test to reach the Quarter-Finals.
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova saw off Venus Williams in her first tie from a set down; as the legendary American fell once again in her opener; next up is Marie Bouzkova who won through in straight sets. It will be interesting to see if Bouzkova will be the level above or whether Schmiedlova can somehow continue her form.
Yafan Wang finally picked up her first win of the season after a woeful start against Lara Arruabarrena without dropping a set. She takes on Astra Sharma who herself came through comfortably. Expect the Chinese ace to kick on from here; it could start with the lucky loser.
Then it is probably the tie of the day, Leylah Fernandez will face off against Sloane Stephens. The young Canadian reached the final in Acapulco and then came straight to Monterrey beating Stefanie Voegele in straight sets.
Sloane Stephens battled past Emma Navarro to claim her first win of the season and similar to Wang, it will be a battle of whether she can continue that form through, a very intriguing tie between someone on the up and a player attempting to recapture previous form.
