Sofia Kenin defeated Vitalia Diatchenko in the first round of the Open 6ème Sens in Lyon and broke the losing streak she brought from her previous 3 matches.
Kenin was the last player to join the field of players in the second round as
second-round matches started in Lyon already before her clash with the Russian. Alisson Van Uytvanck,
Viktoriya Tomova, Alizé Cornet and
Camila Giorgi were the players battling on the Central Court in Lyon.
The first match showed a lot of drama as after Tomova took the first set, Van Uytvanck leveled the score in the second. It seemed as Belgian would easily take it in the third as she led already 5-3, however, the tie-break needed to decide the match. There, Van Uytvanck was almost flawless when she outplayed her opponent 7-2 to book the quarterfinal spot at the Open 6ème Sens.
Alizé Cornet did not bring a lot of joy to the home fans. Despite winning the first set 6-4 and leading in the tie-break of the second, the French player did not manage to hold her lead. It was Giorgi who took the tie-break in the second set with a 7-5 victory and eased past Cornet into the quarterfinals when she defeated her 6-2 in the third set.
Finally, also
Sofia Kenin kicked-off her campaign in Lyon.
