Further details have emerged surrounding the sudden passing of the boyfriend of World Number Two and Australian Open champion, Aryna Sabalenka with Konstantin Koltsov's death now being reported as suicide by Miami-Dade Police Department.
Koltsov who passed away on Monday night as was reported and then confirmed by his team Salavat Yuleav in Russia was 42 and was with his girlfriend, Sabalenka who was set to play in this week's Miami Open. The long-term partner of the tennis star, he has often been seen on her social media and is an often seen figure in her box and at tournaments.
"It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the coach of Salavat Yulaev, Konstantin Koltsov, passed away," Salavat Yulaev said in a statement.
"He was a strong and cheerful person, he was loved and respected by players, colleagues, fans. Konstantin Evgenievich [has] forever written himself in the history of our club."
It emerged that it was a detached blood clot that was the reason behind his passing, but in a statement received by UPI from Miami-Dade Police Department detective, Argemis "AC" Colome, it was in fact suicide which was behind the passing.
“According to investigators on Monday, March 18, 2024, at approximately 12 : 39 a.m., Bal Harbour Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, 9703 Collins Avenue, in reference to a male that jumped from a balcony," said a statement passed over to UPI regarding the case.
“The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau, responded and has taken over the investigation of the apparent suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov (04/17/1981). No foul play is suspected.”
Interestingly the report also states that Sabalenka as of right now will still play at the Miami Open according to her publicist after it was widely expected that she would withdraw from the tournament.
