Beatriz Haddad Maia just recently had a breakout performance at Roland Garros however she's out of the Nottinghman Open despite being the defending champion.

Beatriz Haddad Maia played a lot of tennis recently at Roland Garros making her way to the semi-final where she was beaten by Iga Swiatek. The Brazilian played a few very long matches and it seems like that run had some consequences. The Brazilian made her way to Nottingham where she was the defending champion after winning the trophy last year but it wasn't a very good match for her as she lost in straight sets to Snigur.

She was supposed to play Lesia Tsurenko in the opening round but the Ukranina pulled out giving lucky loser Snigur a chance. The Ukranian prevailed in two sets to the surprise of many. Haddad Maia is generally known as a fighter and she fought a lot in this match but things simply didn't go her way for much of the match.

Snigur faced break points early in the first set but after saving them her plays stabilized. Haddad Maia wasn't able to find anything and eventually dropped her own serve to give Snigur the lead. The Ukranian finished it off 6-3 by simply playing better tennis in the crucial moments. She saved both break points she faced and converted the only one Haddad Maia allowed her.

The second set wasn't that prettier as the players traded early breaks but Snigur then broke her opponent once more to take a 3-1 lead. She would then add another break for the 5-2 lead with Haddad Maia breaking her opponent to prolong the match by another game. The next one however saw Snigur get her first match points which she used to finish off the match 6-3. A great win for the Ukrainian going from a lucky loser to the second round against a top 10 player.
