The Jasmin Open Monastir is set to take place between 9-15 September, 2024, in what will be the third edition of the tournament held in Tunisia. Elise Mertens arrives as the two-time champion of the WTA 250 event, which is played at the Tennis Club of Monastir on outdoor hard courts.
In a singles draw featuring 32 players, over $260,000 in prize money will be distributed. The main players in the draw include Clara Burel, Diane Parry, Alycia Parks, and the two-time defending champion Mertens as the first seed.

Mertens aims for a third consecutive Jasmin Open Monastir title

The tournament was introduced in 2022 to replace the events previously held in China, which were banned after the disappearance of Peng Shuai, who in November 2021 accused Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of sexual violence.
In the previous editions, Mertens claimed the title, first in 2022 with a victory over Alize Cornet (6-2, 6-0) and then another dominant win in 2023 against Jasmine Paolini (6-3, 6-0). The world No. 35 will seek her third consecutive title in Tunisia and will debut against Anastasia Zakharova (No. 132) in the first round.
Second seed Clara Burel (No. 56) will face Spain's Marina Bassols Ribera (No. 114), who is taking her first steps in Tour-level tournaments. Frenchwoman Diane Parry (No. 60) has a good chance of achieving a deep run, as she first plays local wildcard Chirza Bechri (No. 1206) and then awaits the winner between a qualifier and Suzan Lamens (No. 121).
Former French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska (No. 68) debuts against a qualifier and could face an exciting second-round matchup with Alycia Parks (No. 117), although the American will first have to overcome the Brit Yuriko Miyazaki (No. 144).
Other notable first-round matchups include 8th seed Anna Blinkova (No. 81) against Sara Sorribes Tormo (No. 115), and the match between Ann Li (No. 128) and former top-10 player Kristina Mladenovic (No. 234).
