Elena Rybakina wins 2023 Rome Open after Kalinina retirement

Elena Rybakina won her 3rd match due to the retirement of an opponent and this one was actually the final against Anhelina Kalinina who was down 4-6 0-1.

The 2023 Rome Open final was one that began fairly late at about 23:00 local time due to rain pushing back the schedule a couple of times. It was a tricky matchup for Kalinina who played a tough schedule in the previous few days to even get to the final. She started well taking an early break but eventually Rybakina managed to battle back and make it a tie match.

She then broke Kalinina once more for the 6-4 opening set to finish. The second set saw only one game played with the Kazakh player taking a 1-0 lead and we didn't see any more tennis. Kalinina was in tears talking to the officials eventually opting to retire and sharing a quick embrace with Rybakina.
