Holger Rune will contest his 2nd ATP 1000 final on Sunday in Rome against
Daniil Medvedev and it comes after a big comeback win over
Casper Ruud.
The win over Ruud was a major one for Rune in many ways. First of all, it was a comeback win where he was a set and break down so those are always great confidence builders. Second of all, it was a win over a player that he hasn't beaten before and probably the player who handed him one of the most painful defeats of his career so far at last year's Roland Garros.
It was a win he enjoyed explaining after the match:
"Yeah, honestly, I told myself at that moment that I had nothing to lose. You know, he's probably going to win the match. So I just told myself to play free, enjoy it, you know, it's probably my last set here. I told myself I just have to try to play how I want to play, play aggressive, you know, enjoy it."
Turning his attention to his recent form, Rune added:
"Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, I really played some of my best tennis in periods of the matches, especially in the last two matches. First against Novak and then and against Caspar. I mean, they are difficult players to play (against). So I had to find my best tennis and, you know, I actually didn't find it today - only at the end - and that was why I turned it around."
