Emma Raducanu confirmed she will take part in 2022 Australian Open regardless of the restrictions imposed.
The Coronavirus pandemic in Australia is still raging and the country has one of the strictest measures in place. That is the case for the Australian Open as well as the event already communicated to players that the strict measures from the 2021 edition will be kept in place. Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu does not mind and she is happy to comply with all measures in order to play.
She explained:
“Whatever needs to be done to be able to play the Australian Open, I’ll do. To me it’s not even a thought or like a battle in my mind. I just want to be at the Australian Open, and I want to compete there, so, whatever it takes to do, I’ll go.”
Players who are vaccinated will have easier measured in place and they will not have to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the country. Raducanu has not publicly disclosed her vaccinating status but the Brit did attend the Met Gala after her US Open triumph and that event could not be attended if you are not vaccinated. Raducanu also touched upon soaking everything is as she goes having never experienced this:
“I just feel like I’m learning and absorbing all the knowledge that I’m gaining like a sponge and soaking it all in. That’s what I really want to do. I’m not focused on results, I’m focused on how much I can learn because that’s what’s really going to drive me forward.”
