Felix Auger-Aliassime and Schwartzman softened the blow for Team World against Team Europe by winning very entertaining doubles match against Medvedev and Ruud.
After Team Europe officially clinched the trophy another fun doubles match was played. Daniil Medvedev joked before the event that he should not play doubles as he is not good but he ended up playing. In the end, he lost the match but it was a very solid match that the crowd enjoyed. From the start, it was obvious that team world felt more comfortable on the court.
Team Europe had to save early break points and after successfully doing so they started playing better. It did not matter much cause the team world applied pressure and finally found a breakthrough late in the set to win the opening one with 6-3. Europe struggled a lot on 2nd serves and were late to catch the returns winning only 2 out of 8 points.
The 2nd set proved a very similar one with Europe once again struggling on their 2nd serve. Auger-Aliassime and Schwartzman returned very well with precise corner shots that were too far for Medvedev and Ruud to handle. Europe won only one of 8 2nd service points and that proved key in the 2nd set which they lost with 3-6.
This match wraps up play in Boston for the day and the competition with Team World winning it 14-4 overall. Two additional matches were scheduled to be played but they won't be as there is no reason for it. This match was the crowd's show match to close out the 2021 Laver Cup.
