As the 2021 WTA season comes to an end, the year-end rankings show several surprising movers, with none more shocking than Great Britain's Emma Raducanu.
The 19-year old stunned the world by winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open as a qualifier, becoming the first player to do so in the Open Era. Prior to this, she made an incredible run at the Wimbledon Championships, falling in the fourth round of her first major event.
Raducanu began the year ranked at World No.343, jumping to No.179 after her performance at the All England Club. With her star on the rise, the British star pulled off the biggest run of her young career, winning the US Open title a few months later. This saw her make a meteoric rise on the WTA Ranking table, skyrocketing to World No.23 and becoming British No.1.
Following two wins at the Transylvania Open, Raducanu would climb even higher, reaching World No.20 and eventually finishing the season ranked at World No.19 after Belgian Elise Mertens dropped out of the Top 20.
With no ranking points to defend in the first half of 2022, Raducanu could rise even higher in the rankings as she will only start losing points at Wimbledon.
