British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu skyrocketed to popularity in 2021, as the teenager was catapulted into the limelight when she won the US Open singles title as a qualifier.
Raducanu became an instant global superstar following her victory, which led to her signing several endorsement deals with companies varying from Tiffany & Co. to Dior. However, not much was known about the 19-year old prior to last year's Wimbledon, as she was ranked World No.343 at the start of 2021.
Research from Futures Sport, in association with the Women’s Sport Trust, revealed that the Brit generated just 250 searches last May, but this figure then skyrocketed in size following her rise to fame.
Following her impressive fourth round showing at Wimbledon and her shocking US Open title run, Raducanu was rose in popularity and climbed the WTA rankings, ending the year ranked inside the Top 20. This led to an increase in Google searches for the Brit, with her name generating over eight million entries in the UK version of the search engine alone.
Although the World No.13 suffered a second round exit at this year's Australian Open, she is hoping to bounce back at the Abierto Akron Zapopan in Guadalajara, which starts on February 21st.
