Emma Raducanu was one of the names confirmed for a stacked
Internationaux de Strasbourg which acts as the precursor for the
French Open and takes place in the week prior.
But there is an insanely bold choice at play here with Raducanu signing up despite her likely having to play in French Open qualifying which takes places on the week prior. Taking place between 18-25 May, 2024 it seems that Raducanu is relying on a wildcard which is bold given the route the FFT usually take.
Basically all wildcards given in the 2023 draw for the French Open were to French players or those with reciprocal agreements with other Grand Slams. It is not against the grain to believe that this will happen again leaving a myriad of players disappointed. But it seems to be a slight error of judgement with Caroline Wozniacki and Simona Halep in the same boat but currently not signed up for anything.
The only other reliance is similar to the Australian Open which saw a certain number of players needed to withdraw and this was achieved. Raducanu needs five this time so will be watching the Entry Lists with bated breath. So it seems to be withdrawal, wildcard or bust in her route to play Roland Garros.
