Emma Ruducanu is slowly calming down the doubts over her tennis with another strong showing in Madrid battling past Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-1.
The British player shoed in Stuttgart that her Billie Jean King Cup win in her first-ever clay match was not by chance. Raducanu battled hard against Swiatek but ultimately got beaten in a very tight match where Swiatek had to sweat quite a bit. She arrived in Madrid and swiftly showed a high level once more taking down Martincova again in round one.
Round two had a bigger challenge for her with Marta Kostyuk who is very strong on clay but once again it did not matter. The Brit came out strong from the start hitting the ball really well from the baseline leaving Kostyuk to battle hard for every rally. The Ukrainian lost her serve in the first game and it sort of set the tone for the match.
Kostyuk had a lot of issues winning her 2nd service points and on return, she only won two points. That was not enough and Raducanu won the opening one with 6-2. The 2nd set did not go much better for Kostyuk as Raducanu dominated on rallies. The Ukrainian managed to break her opponent once but she also lost all three times she served and that's just too much to overcome.
