Frances Tiafoe played his 2nd career Estoril final and once more the American failed to win it as
Sebastian Baez from Argentina won his maiden trophy 6-3 6-2.
It was not meant to be for Frances Tiafoe in Estoril again as the American once again reached the final here (his 2nd) and once again he lost. This time around it took him a supernatural effort as he battled back twice from a deficit in the deciding set. He also played 3-setters every round which is not something you want to do when you play every day.
He started well today but his opponent stuck with him today as he knew that Tiafoe was tired. Everybody knew it yet many hoped he would be able to sustain a very high level. He didn't as Baez was literally able to wear him down. There was no bounce in Tiafoe's step, there was a lack of running for balls which he tracked the previous days and it became clear pretty soon that he simply did not have enough energy.
He battled as well as he could but Baez kept applying pressure and Tiafoe crumbled. It was a superb final from Baez because he played rather well. He did not win simply because his opponent was tired but because he outplayed his opponent. It was his 2nd career final and 2nd this year and finally his maiden trophy for the young Argentine.
