Emma Raducanu has split from another coach, this time Francisco Roig who she had one of her longest stints with a coach since her 2021 US Open triumph and looked to be settled with.
But on the eve of Raducanu playing again next week at the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, she has split with the Spaniard who was instrumental in the success of Rafael Nadal.
Her team said it ended on good terms with Raducanu penning a heartfelt post on her Instagram page.
“Francis, thank you for our time together. You have been more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent together on and off the court.
“While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know that I am very grateful for all you have taught me and fond of our time shared.”
It is a surprise in that Raducanu perhaps apart from with Mark Petchey was at her most stable when it came to her career coaching wise so far with good results during the middle of last year which saw her ranking climb again finally. But she has a habit of hiring and firing coaches especially when things get rocky.
Roig is the eighth permanent coach to come and go as Raducanu looks again for the answer to recapture her struggles more than five years since her incredible US Open victory.
She will be joined according to the Sun by Alexis Canter when she plays in Cluj, Romania next week where she is top seed. Albeit she has also recently criticised methods used by Roig at certain junctures and wanting to play the way she wants to.
“I didn’t play how I wanted to play because I wasn’t hitting any shot particularly well," she told BBC Radio Five Live after being bundled out of the Australian Open at the second hurdle.
“It’s tough to take an assessment when you’re completely off. Me and Francis have done some amazing work together in the past few months, and I’ve improved so many different aspects of my game. It’s difficult to say we don’t agree.”
