Emma Raducanu served for the match against Martic but failed to serve it out and ultimately lost in another disappointing showing 7-6(3) 4-6 5-7.
It was a very hard-fought battle between
Petra Martic and Emma Raducanu, much more so than expected. The British player is not playing superb tennis but at times she does flash some of that level that she had in Flushing Meadows. For the 2nd time in two rounds, Raducanu was able to win a match in 3 sets yet this was was a bit more impressive.
Martic put up a good fight playing with a lot of variety that had Raducanu guessing at times. Her serve gave her a bunch of free points which was crucial at times when her tennis lacked. The first set was decided in a close tiebreak which Raducanu won with 7-3. The 2nd set featured more close battles between the two players with Raducanu faltering towards the end.
Martic won it with 6-4 after using the 2nd break points at 5-4. It was a bad game from Raducanu and problems continued in the next set as Martic was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Raducanu upped her aggressiveness and caught a bad game from Martic to pull it back to 2-2 and that somewhat stabilized her game.
Her serve proved crucial down the stretch as Martic slammed a couple of crucial balls out. Raducanu go the break at 4-4 but failed to serve it out in the next game. She went on to lose the match 7-5 in another collapse.
