Emma Raducanu's out in full support for @England again! 🏴 #Wimbledon
Emma Raducanu can watch the England game after all it seems. She has withdrawn from tonight's mixed doubles alongside Andy Murray due to stiffness in her right wrist. This unintentionally also spells the end of the legendary Brit's Wimbledon career.
Murray cannot re-pair last minute as per the rules of Wimbledon meaning that is the end for him. His last match then was alongside his brother Jamie Murray in losing out to Rinky Hijikata and John Peers earlier this week.
In hindsight, it is a farewell he will take. He had an emotional sendoff on court afterwards which saw legendary BBC presenter Sue Barker look back on his career in front of an adoring Centre Court at SW19. Novak Djokovic was among those present as he left in tears. He was due to play on Court No.1 today and with Raducanu not playing Olympic Games in Paris, it was the last time the two best British players of the past few years could team.
But with Raducanu facing Lulu Sun for a spot in the Quarter-Finals, she is thought to be protecting her wrist. They were due to face Zhang Shuai and Marceloa Arevalo. “Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight,” Raducanu said.
“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.”
But she will get to watch England after previously lamenting the fact that the match was scheduled for the prime time slot to go head to head with the England game.
“The scheduling of that was not ideal,” Raducanu said and added it was “just an amazing opportunity to be able to play with him.
“It’s something that I’m going to cherish.”
