Raducanu reaches the fourth round 💪 The Brit knocks out No.9 seed Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3 #Wimbledon
Already relegated to Court No.1 instead of Centre Court, Emma Raducanu teaming with Andy Murray also has another problem with the tie being likely on during England's match with Switzerland at Euro 2024 with England playing for a spot in the semi-finals.
A big occasion for English fans including Raducanu who was left slightly bemused by the placing of the match with the former US Open champion watching the tournament and rocking an England shirt to practice last week. But she will hope to catch some of it depending on the result of her match with Murray.
But despite that view point, she is still looking to savour being on the court with Murray. In reality for potentially the last time in his Wimbledon career.
"Yeah, I know. The scheduling of that was not ideal. I mean, it's just an amazing opportunity to be able to play with him. It's something that I'm going to cherish," said Raducanu.
But oddly asked whether she had any influence, she said she doesn't in this case. "No, I just came off court and found out myself," she replied.
While in terms of her win over Maria Sakkari, she continues to maintain a calm aura and also enjoying herself in beating a second top 10 player in her career in just over two weeks. “I think staying present in the moment is what got me this far. I’m not going to start changing anything. I was able to turn some scorelines in the game around, being 15-40. I think that’s the best way for me to approach it. I think also for me to be winning that match against a top-10 opponent on Centre Court, it’s a beautiful feeling and one that I really want to savour.
“Tennis is pretty brutal in the way you have to enjoy it tonight and then tomorrow you’re already thinking about the next one. You can win the tournament but you can lose first round the next week. It’s the sport. I’m just trying to cherish every moment I have here.”
Tournament Director Jamie Baker admitted that the situation wasn't ideal but mainly due to cancelled.matches and it did run through their mind. "Andy and Emma will be on tomorrow’s schedule definitely, but whether they get on depends on what happens today and what court depends on what happens tomorrow. Obviously Emma is playing singles today so again, a bit will depend on what happens with that result. The things that we have to juggle is that with the football matches we know exactly what time they are but with tennis matches you don’t know exactly what time."
