Emma Raducanu's return to Stuttgart wasn't very good as the Brit was smashed by
Jelena Ostapenko in two sets 6-2 6-1 at the
Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Raducanu hasn't been in action since the Miami open nursing her wrist back to health she arrived in Stuttgart in high spirits hoping for some clay success. It's a surface she hasn't played much on but she show promise last year and certainly can play well on it. The draw wasn't in her favour and it's to blame for this because Ostapenko is just a very tough player to play.
She's a grand slam champion whose only grand slam came on clay as she won Roland Garros. It was always going to be a tough matchup for Raducanu who can be beaten if you push her hard and play aggressively. That's Ostapenko's calling card and she did a lot of damage on the Brit's second serve.
Raducanu won only 3 of 15 points on her second serve which was a pretty big problem for her all day. She didn't serve that badly overall but needed to be much better on her second serve. Still the match wasn't really close as Ostapenko cruised easily.
