Canadian tennis star
Eugenie Bouchard met singer Shania
Twain in Montreal. The 29-year-old is posted a picture with her favourite singer
on her social media platform account Instagram where she expressed her excitement
in meeting ‘an icon’.
"A LIVING LEGEND. AN ICON. I’ve looked up to Shania
ever since I was 3 years old. She’s from a small town in Canada and had massive
success, and that inspired me. It made me believe I could have success too.
What a night for my family and I! Thank you Shania,” she wrote.
Bouchard, who started her career strongly, did not have a great
year while playing at the highest level as she failed to play in the main round
of three Grand Slams despite playing in the qualifiers.
Those results were surprising, to say the least considering
that the former world number five is a one-time Grand Slam finalist and twice
she played in the semifinal of a major event.
In 2014, Bouchard played in the semifinal of the Australian
Open where she lost to China’s Li Na with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
She then played in the last four of the French Open where
she came second-best against the former world number one Russia’s Maria
Sharapova with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
In the same year, she played in her maiden and till now only Grand Slam final at Wimbledon where she suffered a loss against Czech Republic’s
Petra Kvitova with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
