American tennis phenom Coco Gauff still has the fire and desire to win, but is now exhibiting an inner calm, according to renown coach Rick Macci.
Macci, who coached 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in her early years, believes Gauff has made significant improvements over the past few months, and not just on the tennis court but also in how she approaches the game.
"The wildcard for @CocoGauff is I see a more Relaxed Chilled Inner Calmness but the exact same Fire and Desire to soar Higher," wrote Macci on Twitter. "She found the IDEAL PERFORMANCE STATE where the Mind and Body are best friends and SHE IS NOT COMPETING AGAINST HERSELF. NUMBER ONE ON THE HORIZON!"
Gauff breezed past Mirra Andreeva to reach the third round at the 2023 US Open, and has now improved to 13-1 this summer on hard courts. The 19-year old won the title in Washington, before lifting her first WTA 1000 title at the Cincinnati Open.
