Aryna Sabalenka will face either Magda Linette or Elisabetta Cocciaretto first up with a third round against Katie Boulter and fourth round against Danielle Collins potentially looming at the Madrid Open. But as one of Spain's best sporting stars retires, she had a few words against Garbine Muguruza.
The former World No.1 and two-time Grand Slam champion decided to call time on her career at the age of 30 after a year of inactivity. After being ground down by the sport with a slump in form, Muguruza plans to enjoy a quiet retirement and raise a family after years of sporting endeavour. The World No.2 in Sabalenka was asked for a few words and gave both her persona on and off court as examples.
Muguruza was known as was seen on the red carpet of the Laureus Awards for combining both beauty with her tennis racquet and also off court at events and Sabalenka also described her as a strong fighter on the court. She said that she was happy that she got the chance to face her despite not many times and wishes it was more. This also in a press conference where the Belarusian lauded Muguruza's compatriot and best friend Paula Badosa.
“Fashion, beauty... Strength, fighter... many things. She was an incredible player, I'm happy to have faced her, although not for long. The attitude was always there, she was a great fighter , also with great style and beauty off the court," said Sabalenka as per Punto de Break.
