The International Sports Press Association caught a lot of criticism on social media after announcing the nominees in their annual rewards with some very curious choices.
AIPS holds sports awards every year but tennis fans were left quite disappointed when they saw some particular nominations among the candidates to win an award. For example, Roger Federer was nominated for the Best Male Athlete Award which confused many as he didn't play a single match this year.
The same thing happened on the WTA side with Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams being nominated for the Best Female Athlete Award. Shockingly both Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek were left off the nominee's list which is inexcusable considering the results they have. It's laughable especially when comparing which names found themselves on the list.
On top of that, the players are both ranked number one in their respective Tours. Some tennis fans reactions on social media below.
"This is garbage if true."
"Federer, Serena and Osaka for BEST athlete of 2022? This is the joke of the yea."
"Is this award for the best or the richest athletes? It has to be for business achievements this year, it's hard to believe it could be for sports."

This is garbage if true
