Angelique Kerber rallied very late in the match in a sensational manner to beat Petra Kvitova 3-6 6-3 7-6(3).
Kerber found herself down 5-6 in the 3rd set with Kvitova serving for the match but rallied to force a tiebreak which she won. It was an amazing comeback for Kerber who has had some tough defeats this year. Speaking on the win she said:
"I was really fighting until the end, and I was trying to believe that I can win the match and turn around the third set. Of course, the crowd, when you play at home, the atmosphere here is amazing."
Kerber moves to the Bad Homburg final which is her first final in while. The German was happy about the win because it instilled confidence in herself:
"I think it was also important for me to win a match like this, against Petra, because the last few months, I’ve lost really tight matches. The match against Petra shows me that I’m still able to win matches like this."
Kerber played two matches yesterday and on that she said:
"I don’t know when I [last] played six sets in one day, I think it’s a long, long time ago. But physically I’m feeling good. I will try to recover as fast as possible before tomorrow."
