Iga Swiatek is dominating tennis so much that she is being called the new Ashleigh Barty, and Bianca Andreescu finds that motivating.
The Canadian played got her Roland Garros campaign underway today with a great comeback win over Bonaventure but speaking a day before the match Andreescu touched upon Swiatek and her unbelievable rise. She explained:
“She’s definitely setting a high precedent right now. For me at least it’s very
motivating. She’s like the new Ashleigh Barty of the tour, because
Ashleigh was winning a lot, as well. It’s very motivating. I’m very impressed with how she’s doing.”
Andreescu also got to see Swiatek work up close when they met in Rome. Andreescu played a very close first set with Swiatek only being able to win it in a tiebreak. In the 2nd set, the Polish player did dominate her opponent cruising to an easy finish.
