"For women, it's mostly been either/or": Wozniacki hopes to inspire change in returning after pregnancy like Clijsters, Azarenka and Serena Williams

Caroline Wozniacki announced her intention to return to tennis in a shock U-turn on Thursday afternoon following three years away from the sport for the Dane.
Wozniacki will play at the US Open with the former World No.1 and Australian Open champion also set to play Montreal prior as well as the Australian Open next year.
Speaking as part of her Vogue essay, some of the reason came from her wanting to prove a point that women don't have to choose whether or not to raise a family or give up tennis.
She cited examples of those who have done both including Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. All have came back and still achieved success.
She explained her thought process as part of the essay with part of it below.
"I talked with a lot of women who gave up on their own dreams because they wanted to be with their families, but deep down they have this yearning..I want to show them there’s a way. I want to prove to myself & those women, you can have both," said Wozniacki as per her Vogue article.
"Men don’t have to retire to have a family. Federer had 4 kids. Djokovic 2, Rafa 1, Murray 4. For women, it’s mostly been either/or. I’d like to be part of changing this. Azarenka, Clijsters, Serena showed what it takes to return. It’s not easy, but possible."
There were murmerings of a return before it was confirmed by Wozniacki with her playing Legends tennis suddenly at Roland Garros as well as having practice slots.
She caught up with Holger Rune as part of these and also was lauded by Casper Ruud for her impact on Scandinavian tennis. Similar strides will be hoped for on her return to the court.
