Former British Doubles No. 1
Tara Moore has been suspended for four years after a tribunal accepted the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA)'s appeal regarding anti-doping rule violations.
Moore tested positive for anabolic steroids boldenone and nandrolone in April 2022 but was acquitted in December 2023 after an independent tribunal determined the result was caused by eating contaminated meat while competing in Colombia.
Moore, formerly the British number one-ranked doubles player, stated she has never knowingly consumed a prohibited substance in her career. "For the ITIA, every case is considered according to the individual facts and circumstances," its chief executive, Karen Moorhouse, said in a statement.
"Our bar for appealing a first instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly. In this case, our independent scientific advice was that the player did not adequately explain the high level of nandrolone present in their sample. Today's ruling is consistent with this position."
Tara Moore, 32, reached her career-high WTA singles ranking of 145 in 2017, while in doubles, she peaked at world No. 77 in 2022. Throughout her professional career, she has won 26 ITF titles, including nine in singles.
