Eugenie Bouchard will not play in the main draw at the 2023 Australian Open after the former semi-finalist hit a stumbling block in her comeback from injury with defeat to American, Ashlyn Krueger in qualifying.
Bouchard who began the season brightly playing exhibitions such as the World Tennis League and went to Auckland winning her first round of qualifying then suffered a bout of food poisoning over the year hampering preperation.
She used her protected ranking to enter the qualifiers and dominated the second set 6-1 before losing eight out of the last nine points after being 40-15 up at 4-4.
