Andrea Petkovic reportedly plans to retire after the 2022 season, it has been confirmed.
Petkovic, who has a WTA high of World No.9 believes she is past her prime and that it is soon time to end her career.
At the age of 34, the German ace can play tournaments for the next season due to being high enough in the rankings but at the moment will end her career after 2022.
She has been in action this week but faced a swift exit alongside Germany from the Billie Jean King Cup losing to Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) and Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland) in Prague.
With retirement seemingly on the radar, Petkovic spoke this past week also about not letting her experience go to waste.
"I like to see my experience not get completely wasted and I try to share it as well as I can,” said Petkovic.
“I don’t know how valuable it is to the young players but both Angelique and I try to share our experiences we have had over the course of such long career. “In the end, a young player will have to make mistakes in order to get better no matter what the elder statesmen tell them, but we are there to provide knowledge and try to share some wisdom we have collected over the years."
