The resurgence of Caroline Garcia continued on Friday night at the US Open, as the Frenchwoman made quick work of 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu to advance to the round of 16.
Garcia looked phenomenal in her 6-3 6-2 victory, racing through the third round encounter in just an hour and 27 minutes. The 17th seed hit 31 winners to 11 by her opponent, firing eight aces as Andreescu could not keep up with the pace coming from the other side of the court.
After lifting the title in Cincinnati two weeks ago, Garcia has been playing some of the best tennis in her career. The former World No.4 kept her momentum going, dictating play from the baseline and finishing with aplomb at the net. Conversely, Andreescu lacked the form that saw her claim the title in 2019, as the Canadian struggled to develop any rhythm on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Garcia will face American Alison Riske in the round of 16, as the American battled past China's Xiyu Wang in three sets earlier in the day.
