Coco Gauff was really happy about qualifying for her first WTA Finals where she'll play in both the singles and doubles.
That's something quite rare in modern-day tennis even though we saw it last year as well. Barbora Krejcikova was there last year playing both the singles and doubles and she actually won the doubles event. Coco Gauff will make her debut at the event this year and she said it's a sign that she's progressing:
"I think it just shows that I'm progressing. Sometimes I forget that I am. I think it allows me to take a step back and realize that I am one of the top eight players in the world, and I should be grateful for that."
Gauff has had a period where it looked like she hit a plateau and that she wasn't really moving forward. This season proved that to be a false assumption. She also spoke about the fact that so many players are debuting this year:
"I think it is significant that there's a lot of new faces. I think it shows that the tour is always evolving. There's always going to be someone coming up and doing well. I think that's what makes it exciting."
