American teenage sensation Coco Gauff rallied from a set down to reach her first semifinal of the season at the Top Seed Open.
The 16-year old faced Tunisian
Ons Jabeur, who has proven to be a very crafty opponent. Although Jabeur was dominant in the opening set, Gauff applied relentless pressure to fight back and escape with a 4-6 6-4 6-1 victory.
Jabeur broke her American foe early to grab a 2-1 lead before holding her serve and taking the first set. However, Gauff displayed her fighting spirit in the second set, facing a 2-4 deficit before reeling off four consecutive games. She claimed the second set 6-4 and maintained her intensity for the rest of the match. Although Jabeur managed to hold her opening game in the final set, it was all Gauff as the teenager outhit her opponent to win the match in just under two hours.
Gauff will face compatriot
Jennifer Brady in the semifinals, as Brady
made quick work of Czech
Marie Bouzkova in her quarterfinal bout.
