Coco Gauff defeated Sorana Cirstea in the 2nd round at the 2020 Australian Open after turning the match against the Romanian.
After the
first-round victory over Venus Williams, Gauff was motivated to follow up on her good form also in the second round. In the second round at the Australian Open, she faced Sorana Cirstea and things did not go as planned since the beginning.
The young American lost her service in the 7th game of the first set and gave her opponent the lead. She was not able to take her service back in the first set and lost it 4-6.
However, still, just 15-years-old Coco managed to convert the only breakpoint of the 2nd set to gain an early advantage. Gauff did not lose her service in the 2nd set and therefore won it 6-3.
But the beginning of the third was not ideal again. Gauff was already 0-3 down after losing 12 points out of the first 14 in the last set. But the youngster was able to fight back. She broke 2 service games of her opponent to win the decisive set 7-5 and book her spot in the third round. There, she will meet no.3,
Naomi Osaka.
